Graestan seal: a standing stone encircled by the words Graestan, Historical Research

Historical research for non-fiction and documentary.
Primary sources located, verified, and built into narrative.

The Work

Archival Subject Dossiers

A complete investigation of a single event, figure, place, or artifact. Delivered as an indexed dossier: verified primary-source citations, a chronological event log, the state of the secondary literature where it agrees and where it conflicts, and the narrative openings the record supports. Fixed fee.

Narrative Architecture & Ghostwriting

Archival material shaped into structured chapters, episodic treatments, or finished long-form manuscripts. The pacing is built; the facts are not bent. Billed by milestone.

Production Research Retainer

A dedicated historical desk for projects in active production: rapid fact verification, source location, script audits, and archival problem-solving as the questions arise. Monthly retainer.

The Name

Graestan takes its spelling from Old English grวฃg stฤn, grey stone, and its sound from Middle English grai ston. In Scottish charters from the fifteenth century onward, the gray stane marked boundaries: the fixed point against which land and claims were measured.

The work is the same. Find what is fixed, and mark it.
